A Call You Ignored

Assalamu'alaykum,

A short reminder I want to share here with all of you, Brothers and Sisters in Islam.

Umar ibn al-Khattab (RAA) reported that a man asked the Prophet (SAW): "Messenger of Allah, what action is dearest to Allah Most High?" The Prophet (SAW) replied: "Prayer at its proper time. The one who does not pray has no religion. Prayer is the main pillar of the religion (of Islam)." [Baihaqi]

Day to day, we tend to have some extra 5 minutes of rest when the Adhan is overheard as we lean against the comfortable couch. We are inclined to settle our matters first though we know that it is time to pray. Often also, occurring in our daily life where our days are filled with so many charity and praiseworthy activities; helping the poor, cleaning up the dusts, assisting our mother in the kitchen, running Halaqah, serving the nation, studying the books and so much more. Nevertheless, these actions are no dearer to Allah than to perform prayer at its proper time.

In one Hadith, narrated by one of the greatest companions, Umar Al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) when Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him ) was sitting around with the companions, he was approached by the Archangel Jibril and asked 3 questions to clarify; Islam, Iman and Ihsan. Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) upon answering the first question, he says;

'Islam is that you witness that there is no God but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and you establish the prayer, and you give the Zakat, and you fast Ramadan, and you perform the hajj of the House if you are able to take a way to it.'

The establishment of the prayer sits just next to the testimonial of faith in the 5 noble pillars of Islam that shows how important it is to perform the prayers. It is like when we want to drive a car we have to press the gas pedal after starting the engine, or else the car is not going to move not even an inch at all. So when we say our Shadah, we also need to establish the prayer in accordance of Islamic teaching so that we will be on His track safely heading to the paradise or else we are not going to be admitted into the Jannah and our identity as Muslims will be tarnished and meaningless. As far as Islam is concern, a Muslim is a Muslim when he or she executes the 5 daily prayers as it is the quintessential ordainment by Allah before anything else.

"...indeed prayers are a time bound obligatory duty upon the Muslims."
- Surah An-Nisa', Ayat 103

If we do not train ourselves from now, then our future life will be disastrous. Teach ourselves to ignore all worldly pleasures that we are relishing with at the time of prayer. Put our mobile phone on silent, hibernate our computer or put it on sleep, switch off the television and ask maybe our brothers and father to go to the Masjid together and perform the prayer with the congregation. When we walk to the Masjid, each step counts and those steps will perish our sins and elevate our rank in the hereafter.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "He who purifies (performs Wudu') himself in his house and then walks to one of the houses of Allah (mosque) for performing an obligatory Salat, one step of his will wipe out his sins and another step will elevate his rank (in Jannah).''
[Muslim]

Allah is the most Merciful and He will give to us what we deserved. Allah has right on us and we to have our rights. Surprise? Yes, because Allah would never throw you down to the severe cursed hell -May Allah forbid- once you obey Him and that is your right and Allah always keeps His promises.

Try your best, because Islam is not torturing but rather nurturing you.
